Our Golf and Tennis Club is a premier sporting destination with a thriving membership of 1,000 members and a waiting list. Offering golf, tennis, and a vibrant social community, the Club is set within an area of “Outstanding Natural Beauty”, just five miles west of Salcombe and within comfortable driving distance of the major cities of Plymouth and Exeter. Our outstanding golf course provides a memorable experience for members and visitors alike, combining exceptional sport with the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Our membership is a diverse and welcoming community, made up of residents, community members, and those who travel from further afield, all united by a shared passion for sport, friendship, and the fellowship that Club life provides. At the heart of this is our recently refurbished Clubhouse, which offers a welcoming lounge bar, a dedicated events space with capacity for 70 covers, and a terrace overlooking the golf course and nearby beaches. Our food and beverage offering plays a central role in enhancing the overall Club experience, providing a place for members and guests to relax, socialise, and enjoy the unique atmosphere of the Club.

Package & Benefits:

– Salary Up to £44,000

– Contracted hours, 40 hours per week

Position Overview:

The Food & Beverage Manager is a key leadership role within Thurlestone Golf Club, responsible for delivering an exceptional hospitality experience for members, guests, and visitors. As the face of hospitality at the Club, the role requires a highly visible and hands-on approach.

The successful candidate will combine strong commercial acumen with a thorough understanding of the unique demands of a club environment. They will be responsible for driving the performance of the food and beverage operation, developing innovative and engaging offerings, and maximising opportunities for revenue growth while maintaining the quality and service standards expected by our membership. A modern and forward-thinking approach is essential, with the ability to balance tradition with new ideas, embrace change, and continually enhance the overall Club experience.

Key Responsibilities:

– Take full financial accountability for the Food & Beverage department, driving commercial performance and alignment with Club objectives.

– Lead all day-to-day food and beverage operations across the Clubhouse and hospitality outlets.

– Manage all purchasing, stock control, pricing, margins, and product development.

– Create and deliver an engaging food and beverage offering that meets member and guest expectations.

– Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team with a strong service and sales culture.

– Coordinate hospitality operations for daily service, events, and private functions.

– Promote and host private food-led events, maximising revenue opportunities and member engagement.

– Manage staffing levels, resource allocation, and service standards across all food and beverage activities.

– Maintain Clubhouse facilities, equipment standards, and preventative maintenance programmes.

– Continuously improve operations through modern, forward-thinking approaches and industry best practice.

About You:

– Minimum of 3 years’ experience in hospitality management, ideally within a quality-led club, hotel, restaurant, or leisure environment.

– Commercially astute with a proven track record of developing and growing a successful food and beverage operation.

– Flexible and willing to work a rota that includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays to meet the operational needs of the Club.

– Based within a one-hour commute of Thurlestone Golf Club, with access to own transport or a willingness to relocate permanently.
