The Hong Kong Jockey Club has long been committed to the local community in developing and promoting sports in Hong Kong. The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course (“KSC”), the first and only public golf course in Hong Kong, was built during 1994-95 with funds donated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
The facilities, which are managed on a not-for-profit and self-financing basis, are aimed at providing quality, accessible and affordable golfing to the people of Hong Kong. Since 1995 over 3 million golfers have enjoyed playing the courses, thousands of new golf students have been taught the game and golf programmes have been delivered to schools across Hong Kong.
From the very beginning, a high priority has been placed on managing the golf courses in an environmentally sustainable manner with the implementation of best management practices that have been internationally recognized. KSC was the first golf course in China to be certified as an Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary for Wildlife and the first golf course in Asia Pacific to be certified by the Golf Environment Organization. Position Summary:
The position is responsible to the General Manager for the administration of the Golf Professional Team for golf tuition services and organizations of Golf Tournaments, in an efficient and cost-effective manner, for the purpose of promoting the game of golf to the people of Hong Kong; and with possibility of doing research, development, planning and implementation of Adaptive Golf, Elite Training (including grass-root level and PGA Training), as future developments of the Golf Course.
Job responsibilities:
– Enforce all rules and regulations governing golf course usage and ensure that the Warden / Starter team effectively and efficiently monitors the disciplines and the safety of both golf courses in accordance with the adopted policies, rules and practices.
– Administer the facilities and services of the driving range, cart centre and the hire centre in an effective, efficient and safe manner in line with adopted policies, rules and practices in order to achieve business targets and customer satisfaction.
– Provide effective and efficient support services to the Head of Golf Operations in the organisation of golf competitions for generating more revenue and for enhancing the Golf Course image.
– Enhance the Golf Course’s overall customer journey management capability and capture data across all key touch-points of the business in order to provide a high level of service and exceptional golf experience.
– Develop standard operating procedures, establish quality customer service standards and ensure the staff of the Golf Services Department provide quality customer service, uphold integrity and fairness, and maintain good morale.
– Monitor the caddie service to ensure that caddies would serve golfers properly with good manner to the satisfaction of customers, through effective and efficient recruitment and training.
– Where applicable, assist the Head of Golf Operations to schedule, supervise and direct the long range capital improvements to the course and facilities; including but not limited to putting greens, driving range and golf cart operations.
Key Challenges:
- To operate services and facilities for around 200,000 visitors per year by ensuring golfer behaviour and safety on the three 18-hole golf courses, providing caddies for golfers, effectively operating a 60 bay range, running the golf equipment hire/golf cart centre of over 200 Golf Carts.
- handling customers’ misbehaviour and complaints firmly, tactfully, fairly and courteously. This can be particularly difficult at times as the job holder has to make unpopular decisions in order to maintain fairness.
- The importance of making appropriate decisions to handle emergencies and unexpected incidents, e.g. arrangements for closing golf courses due to inclement weather, taking care of injured golfers, etc.
- Train and develop subordinates in dealing with difficult customers and difficult situations.
- Recruitment and training of casual caddies to the satisfaction of customers.
Job requirements:
– The job holder requires degree or diploma in Sports & Recreation Management / Business Administration or equivalent.
– The incumbent requires a minimum of 5 years’ administrative and operational management experience, preferably in leisure industry or golf club.
– Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations
– Excellent communication skills are required to effectively coordinate staff and deal with customers.
– Clear & concise ability of decision making under difficult working conditions / situations.
– Strong planning, facility and project management skills.
– Language Skills: Excellent command of written and spoken English and/or Chinese (Cantonese / Mandarin).
– Driving License: Possession of an international driving license that can be converted into a Hong Kong driving license.
Remuneration:
A highly attractive monthly salary & tuition commission benefits package (including bonus, gratuities, health care, meals, etc.) is available commensurate with the seniority of the role and a golf facility in Hong Kong of this prestige and profile. There is no on-site accommodation with the role however, relocation assistance could be provided, if required.
